Incidentally, the San Benito House is a little over one-quarter of a mile (about eight blocks) walk from the beach and a mile from wonderful hiking in the Purissima forest preserve. It is also just a mile and a half to Friendly Acres horse stables.

Male Elephant Seal at Año Nuevo State Reserve

Año Nuevo State Reserve, 25 miles south of Half Moon Bay. Elephant seals return several times during the year to mate and rear their young. There are self-guided or docent-guided walking tours – a must-see destination.

Fitzgerald Marine Reserve in Moss Beach. Tidepool discoveries and an inspiring walk along the bluffs.

Purissima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve in Half Moon Bay. Great hiking in the coastal redwoods.
